Reflexology is defined as a science that deals with the principles that there are reflexes in the feet and hands relative to every organ, gland, and part of the body.
The kidneys are responsible for filtering most of the toxins from our body including uric acid. Reflexology primarily focuses on breaking up the uric acid build up found in the feet and hands – the parts of the body farthest from the heart and kidneys. This allows the kidneys to excrete the uric acid which increases nerve and blood flow to all areas of the body. This can actually be felt by a popping or crunching sensation as the practitioner works various reflexes.
Benefits can include a decrease in pain, increase in energy, relaxation, and detoxification. A study by Michigan State University and the National Institute of Health showed reflexology enhanced the treatment and decreased symptoms in breast cancer patients. Several studies have also shown positive effects on symptoms of paresthesia and bladder control in people with MS.
